I was born and raised in California and have lived everywhere from the southern reaches of the state to Humboldt County in the north. I’ve spent the last thirty years in the Bay Area, the majority of them teaching art.

My goal is to show my love for the outdoors and some of the iconic landscapes we share, and to make those representations immediate and impactful. When I paint people and animals, it is my hope to paint them in a holistic, attentive manner, sharing in their humanity, humor, and dignity.

My paintings seek to embody California’s sun-soaked beaches, rolling hills and oaks, its cities, unique people, flora, and fauna. I attempt to execute this with an economy of stroke that speaks of the paint, while clearly depicting the muse of my representations: our home. 

While it is a body of work that is nowhere near exhaustive nor representative of everywhere and everyone to be experienced in this giant state, it is one that, I hope, proves captivating and quintessentially Californian.
